Crackhouse closure orders on pubs

Submitted by admin on Friday, 30 November 2007

Two pubs suspected of being involved in drug dealing near Leeds schools have been closed down by officers in a series of raids.

“Crack house” closure orders were served on the Skinners Arms in Scott Hall Road and the Latvian Club in Chapeltown Road on Tuesday.

Magistrates in Leeds will now be asked to make the closures permanent.

Five men and a woman were also arrested in raids on houses in areas including Chapeltown, Lincoln Green and Meanwood.

West Yorkshire Police said the force was “rightly proud” to be taking action against the premises.

Supt Simon Atkin said: “The crackhouse closure orders… should ensure that the drug and drug-related crime problems in the area will be greatly reduced as we are taking away locations that have become central to the dealers for the supply of class A drugs.”

Police served the orders under crack house closure legislation. Officers were due to go before magistrates on Wednesday when they will ask the court to ratify the orders.
