Dog to detect drugs in nightclubs

Submitted by admin on Thursday, 3 January 2008

Nightclub revellers in a Cumbrian town are being checked for drugs by one of the force’s four legged recruits.

Detection dog “Jet” is working with a handler and police officers over the weekend in Barrow to identify people who are carrying or using drugs.

Queues at nightspots will be patrolled and anyone found with drugs will face prosecution as well as a lifetime ban from the premises.

Footage from a headcam used by the handler can also be used in evidence.
