Drug dealers in £35,000 payback
A Norfolk couple who led a lavish lifestyle funded by drug dealing have been ordered to pay £35,000 after being handed a confiscation order.
Norwich Crown Court heard how Elaine Helguson, 59, and Edwin Tagg, 60, of Birkett Street, King’s Lynn, admitted possession and supplying Class A drugs.
At a trial on 11 January, Helguson was jailed for eight years, and Tagg for five-and-a-half years.
Recorder Guy Ayers said the couple made nearly £80,000 from their crimes.
The court was told the pair sold drugs almost as if they were selling goods in a supermarket, and that they spent their profits on expensive holidays, cars and jewellery.
BMW cars
A police search of their home in September found drugs including cocaine, ecstasy, cannabis and amphetamines with a combined worth of £10,682.
Helguson, a great-grandmother, admitted possessing cocaine and 1,236 ecstasy tablets with intent to supply, as well as four other drug charges.
Tagg pleaded guilty to being concerned with the supply of drugs and possessing criminal property including two BMW cars, jewellery and electronic equipment.
Helguson was assessed to have assets worth £26,503 and was ordered to pay that sum, while Tagg was ordered to pay £8,693.
