Drugs courier ‘got tired of bus’
A drugs courier was caught by police after he got tired of travelling by bus and took a taxi for the rest of his journey, a court has heard.
Student David Allan, 22, of Inverness, was taking drugs with a street value of £50,000 north from Manchester in June.
The High Court in Edinburgh heard he told police that he took a taxi from Aviemore because he was tired of the bus and wanted to get home quicker.
Allan admitted being concerned in the supply of drugs. Sentence was deferred.
Cocaine, cannabis, amphetamine and benzylpiperazine – which Allan had believed to be Ecstasy tablets – were found in a rucksack by police officers.
Judge Lord Malcolm deferred sentence on Allan for the preparation of a background report and remanded him in custody after rejecting a plea to continue his bail.
The judge said: “Given the nature and gravity of this matter I do not consider bail is in the public interest.”
