Kent men jailed for cocaine conspiracy

Submitted by admin on Monday, 25 January 2010

A gang of men from Kent have been jailed for serious drugs offences and money-laundering.

Brothers Leonard, 38, and Roger Powell, 27, Mark Sutherland, 34, and Paul Fenton, 53, all pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.

Grant McAllister, 24, admitted money-laundering. In April Hilltop Farm in Farningham was raided and a 1kg block of cocaine was found.

It had a street value of £112,000, Kingston Crown Court was told.

The Powell brothers, both of Hilltop Farm, received the longest sentences – 14 years for Leonard and 13 for Roger.
Sutherland, from Littlebrook Manor Way in Dartford, was given a five-and-a-half year sentence, while Paul Fenton, of Farm Holt in Longfield, received a four-and-a-half year jail term.

McAllister, of South Darenth, was sentenced to 15 months in prison.

The five men were arrested following an operation by the Metropolitan Police’s Serious and Organised Crime Command (SOCC).

Speaking after the conclusion of the case on Thursday, Det Insp Marion Ryan said: “This was a sophisticated family-run drugs network, operating on a national level and deploying a diverse range of tactics which made them very difficult to penetrate.

“Solid detective work, combined with careful operational planning, enabled us to keep one step ahead of this gang and this ultimately led to their eventual demise.

“The wealth of evidence gathered against the group is indicated by their guilty pleas.”
