Police seize hallucinogenic drugs from Edinburgh flat

Submitted by admin on Sunday, 11 April 2010

Hallucinogenic drugs with a street value of £35,000 have been seized from a flat in Edinburgh.

Officers recovered 3.5kg of mescaline from an address in Nicolson Street on Thursday.

A 31-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman were arrested on various charges relating to possession and supply of the Class A drug.

They are both due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court later on Friday.

Mescaline is a naturally occurring psychedelic found in several cactus species in South America.

The drug can cause dizziness, vomiting and in some cases the hallucinatory visions can lead to nightmares and cause psychotic reactions.
